Tonights the night!!!

June 23, 2008

Haddon Township residents have trudged through years of garbled information on whether or not the beloved Westmont Theatre would be restored. Tonight at 7PM, in the high school auditorium, that information will be belted out to the masses through presentations from three potential redevelopment firms

Each proposal is different.

One firm wants to build an “indoor mall”, another wants to put retail space, dinner theatre and apartment housing, and one wants to fully restore the theatre as a performing arts centre.

Who will win? Only time (and the collective voice of the town residents and commission) can answer that question.

The Westmont Theatre Blog team will be shooting pictures of tonight’s presentations. Please check back tomorrow for pictures of this historic public meeting!

Courier Post: ‘Theater’s in need of final script’

May 19, 2008

On the front page of the today’s edition of the Courier Post is an article, a rather lengthy one, about the three proposals on the Westmont Theatre.

The article is similar to the one posted by the Retrospect a few weeks ago but goes into slightly greater detail on each proposal and even has some direct quotes from members of each development firm, such as Paul Warshauer from the Retzler Development Company, Philip Herman from the Herman Group and Arthur Corsini from Fieldstone Associates.

The best part of the article is what Mayor Teague said at the end, “NO DECISIONS WILL BE MADE UNTIL THE TOWNSHIP SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS ALL THREE PROPOSALS.” The Mayor goes on to say that he hopes to hold those meeting in the next month or so

Retrospect letter: ‘Take the time to explore theater options’

May 17, 2008

Its been 15 days since the three development proposals were announced in the Retrospect. The next step should be to hold a public meeting and invite the three development firms to present their proposals to the community. We’ve been given a second chance to restore our beloved theatre back to the community focal point it was built to be. Let’s not waste this great opportunity by fast tracking development. Instead, let’s take the time to explore all theatre options, publicly, before making an informed decision. The fate of our greatest Haddon Ave. treasure and a huge part of the last 80 years of Haddon Township’s history is at stake.

In our efforts to push for a public meeting, the Retrospect printed our ‘Letter to the editor’ in this week’s edition
