Yesterday’s Sunday edition included a front page story on how Haddon Ave. aims to become Main St. In the story there’s mention of 3 redevelopment projects happening in Haddon Township to help faciliate the “main street” presence, and one of those projects is the Westmont Theatre. NCW presenting plan to Haddon Twp Mayor

Tonight the NCW is presenting their “draft” business/strategic development plan to the mayor.

This plan entails restoring the Westmont as a film and performing arts venue, and includes cost estimates for restoration, comparative income streams for performing arts venues, finance and operations, organization structure, marketing strategy, letters of support, programs and services, etc…

A LOT of hardworking individuals have spent countless hours developing this presentation. So it’s no surprise that people will want to know how it went ASAP. However, it is not certain if tonight’s outcome will become instant public knowledge. Rest assured that information will get posted here the moment it becomes publicly accessible!

In the meantime… fingers crossed!

This past week the NCW met to review their completed business/strategic development plan. They are scheduled to meet with the mayor next week to present the plan to him. Once the outcome of that meeting is public knowledge, we’ll be sure to post it…

Things may seem rather quiet recently with the Westmont, but it’s been quite the opposite. For the past several weeks the NCW (Neighbors Celebrating the Westmont) has been working on a business/strategic development plan to restore the Westmont as a film and performing arts venue. Right now the NCW is slated to present their plan to the township sometime in December. Stay Tuned…

NCW meeting this week

The Neighbors Celebrating the Westmont (NCW) is meeting this Thursday to discuss the next steps in their process of forming a non-profit group (Friends of the Westmont Theatre) to be the financial arm for the theater’s restoration and, if restored, would oversee the day-to-day operations and theatre programming.

This meeting was originally set for the Rorher Library, but the libraries meeting rooms are booked. So the meeting will now taking place at a private residency in Haddon Township. If you’re interested in attending this meeting, please email the group and you’ll be given the address for the meeting, which is at 7pm this Thursday.

Haddon Twp replacing theatre sidewalk

A few years back the front sidewalk bilco door, which leads to one of the theatre’s basements, began to cave in. The concrete around the door started breaking away and water, dirt, trash and probably rodents were able to get in more easily. Today the township removed the damaged section of the sidewalk and tamped down the dirt in preparation for pouring new concrete later this week.

Next NCW Meeting

The next NCW meeting will be held on Thursday October 22nd at the Rohrer Library. The meeting is at 7pm and the main agenda item is formation of the Friends of the Westmont Theatre (FOTW), a non-profit group that will be the financial arm for the theatre’s potential restoration and, if restored, responsible for the day-to-day operations and programming for the theatre.

Anyone with an interest in joining either group is encourage to come out on the 22nd to learn more…

On Friday the construction company removed the roof top on the marquee. Now you can look straight up and see the 2n story windows. More info and photos to follow…
